First signs of a modern alphabet as we know it is the Greek Etruscan language, attached. Still lacking a J and some other letters.

Tengwar language

J.R.R.Tolkien’s main ‘Tengwar’ language he created. http://www.omniglot.com/writing/tengwar.htm

Once again, the language is not like our familiar A-Z, and resembles Modern Italian/Old Greek language in that it doesn’t have the same letters or order of alphabet.

here it can be written in English though, with few exceptions …

response from Dr Hillier

Dear Josh,
I don’t have the time to give a response by email, but you may wish to check out my thesis or an article I wrote in The Journal of Writing in Creative Practice Vol 1 No 3 (both are available in the Library).
I also attach an article from Novum (also in the Library) that may help (English text on the second spread).
There is a chapter in a book called “Helping Dyslexic Adults in the Workplace” due to be published in December by Wiley Blackwell with a detailed account of my research.
If you need to talk to me please contact me and we can arrange something.
I hope this helps.
Finally, my nuca address is:
r.hillier@nuca.ac.uk
I would prefer it if you used this address in future, if you need to contact me.
Best wishes

Rob

Main distinction is the difference between similar letters,  i.e. p/q a/o d/b j/l. may have the same problem with my alphabet.

This was at STEW gallery when I went to look around. The room was pitch dark, with a torch to have in hand and the pattern on the floor. Interesting experience, yet it doesn’t seem to be constructive towards anything, which is crucial in my practice.

Sarah suggested this in tutorial, never even thought of it. Incredibly similiar to my language, in that instead of being obviously readable it is something to de-code.

I wish our university had more high-tech facilities to do stuff like this.
